What is the Difference?

What is the difference in these AMD XP processors:
---Thorton
---Thoroughbred
---Palomino

I understand already that Barton's are the 333 FSB versions, but what the heck is the difference in the other ones?

Is one better than the other (in the 266 FSB versions)?

Well for starters, the Palomino was the first Athlon XP core, and was virtually identical to the Duron Morgan core. The Morgan core simply has half as much L2 cache. The Palomino went from 1500+ up to 2100+, and used 180nm fabrication. The Thoroughbred came in A and B variations, and was the successor to the Palomino. It goes from 1700+ to 2700+, with a gap or two along the way. It uses 130nm fabrication. The Thorton I believe is the same as the Barton, merely renamed to go along with the Athlon 64's. By the way, the "real" improvement in the Barton (and the Thorton) is they've got twice as much L2 cache as the TBred.

thorton

Description: A cross between Thoroughbred and Barton, for low cost Athlons. Seems to be a full Barton but with half the L2 cache disabled. Now finally confirmed by AMD as "Athlon XP Processor Model 10 with 256 K L2 cache". Starts at 2000+ to 2600+ which translates to 1.65 to 2.06 GHz.

http://endian.net/details.asp?ItemNo=3909

also, I noticed links and pages saying you can enable that disabled cache.

WOW, good info!!!

Where did you find that information at, or was it something that you just had stored in your head?
