wierd beep code

Hey i Have a ABIT-NF7 motherboard and i just put it all together and its giveing me this wierd beep code, it sounds like a siren. it does it a few sec after i turn it on. the computer will seem like it wants to work but then just all the sudden makes the sound and shuts everthing off. i looked on the internet and a person had the same problem as me and he said all he had to do was reset the cmos to autodetect so i just reset the cmos and it still does the same thing. does any one know?

thats normaly associated with a bad hs/cpu fan IE either its not working properly or not connected properly and doesn't send info to the board therefore the mobo thinks there isn't one connected

As Rich said, it is probably a bad connection on one of your cooling fans. Check all the fan wiring for proper contact. Make sure all fans are clean and turning properly.

The siren sound can also be linked to a voltage or temperature problem. You can check these settings in the BIOS configuration. Make sure everything is within close tolerance.

If you want, write down all the hardware readings for the fan RPM's, voltages, and temps; then post them here for us to examine. It is likely something is outside of the board's preset tolerance range.

Have you ever changed any voltage settings or attempted to overclock the board?

Are you sure the BIOS was actually reset? Considering it is a nForce-2 m/b, a BIOS reset can involve more than just pulling the CMOS jumper.

Disconnect the AC plug on the power supply. Remove the CMOS battery. Set the CMOS jumper to reset, cycle the power switch a couple of times, and then let is set for 1-2 hours. Reset the jumper, re-install the battery, and try again.

you might just have a bad fan sensor and its not sending info to the mobo...and yes it might be a heating issue don't rule that out. Make sure the hs is seated properly maybe try another fan on the hs or just plug a different fan into the power slot provided for the cpu fan.

Double check the cpu + heatsink and fan combo.
Then try testing the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and video card out of the box.

The fact that it does start up and run for a bit before it gives the warning would make me very suspicious of a heating issue. Did the heatsink come with a thermal pad? If so, did you use the pad or some other thermal grease? And if you used other grease, did you check and make sure there's no pad?

I have a similar problem with a Gigabyte mobo (GA-7N400 Pro2). Gives the siren type beep then shuts back down again. Have tried booting out of the case, having bare minimum on the board but still no joy, any more ideas?
