56k vs 64k

is 64k broadband internet much faster than 56k dial-up? there is just a 8k difference which doesn't seem much to me.

yeah that shouldnt be too much of a difference it might have been a typo though i have never seen 64k but i have seen 640k if it is 64k and its not much more than a dial up connection if you can't afford a faster one go with it because it dosent tie up the phone line...unless you need to be connected through the phoneline for upstream

hmm... well if it were 64K (kilobytes) per sec that would translate to a 512kbps connection which I've seen quite alot b4. 64kbps seems like kind of an absurd number.

The broadband 64k is probably the same speeds for upload and download. Where 56k has an upload of 28k or 32k I believe.

64k is one channel of an ISDN line or 1 channel of a T1 line; but I'm not sure in regards to a "broadband Internet".

As a guess, it would not be much faster then a good 56k dial-up connection, but it would be a noticeable improvement.

In comparison to typical broadband, 64k is not much of an improvement over 56k. Kind of like running is faster than walking but they're both a heck of a lot slower than driving.

ah, I forgot about ISDN.
I guess for that kind of an improvement I'd base it on price. If it costs much more its prolly not going to be worth it

not really "broadband" but more or less a "persistant connection" I guess, lol.

Unless it is almost the same price as dialup its probably not worth it, unless you need the phone line freed up....(I guess ISDN would free up the phone line)
