OSA9.EXE and D3D8.DLL missing

Recently as windows starts up ive been getting a message saying that windows is searching for the file OSA9.EXE. I have no idea what this file is or how it went missing, but when it cant find the file, it asks me if i want to point the shortcut to Excel, and I of course say no. I dont know if this file had anything to do with Excel or Office. Outside of this annoying message every time windows starts, I haven't noticed any problems. Also, I've recently downloaded some game demos (Battlefield 1942 and Unreal Tournament 2003) and when i run them, I get an error message saying that the required DLL file D3D8.DLL is missing. It seems to me that both of these errors began occuring at about the same time. I've restored the oldest registry backup windows has saved (from 5 days ago) but to no avail. I'm also running win98.

D3D8 is a msoft direct 3d file http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?d3d8
What version of direct x are you running?

I would get the latest Direct x 9b..and also the latest drivers for my vid card if I were you.

OSA9 is office assistant http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=210875

I think I would run msconfig and see if its listed in the startup and if it is, just take it out..who needs it anyway.

Could you provide a link to download the newest DirectX?

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

thats the windows update site....youll have to install the little pop up software deal that comes up..then let it scan...if it finds security updates you need them also....and directx 9b will be in the list but it needs to be installed by itself.

Also the link may already be at the top of your start menu, lol.
