Different workgroups in win2000 ?

At work we have 2 workgroups: Laser & Billing

How can I setup my windows 2000 computer to access both of them? using the same IP #......is it something to do with users? (better if not)...

Thanks

Seems like it would be a straighforward question....but all the gurus are taking the holiday off, lol...and I searched google but didnt really find much

I suppose at the very least you would just change the name of the workgroup your in and then reboot.

Not sure about more than one at a time though..seems like you are looking at a reboot to change workgroups.

i had a similar problem once and i did what JP said and it worked for me . but you might be able to set something up with sharing. i know you can set things up to share to all workgoups (i think).

You should be able to access both Workgroups even if you are not one (or either). Workgroups are not a security group but more like a logical grouping within My Network Places.

If you want to find the other workgroup computers by browsing My Network Places then just open the Entire Network link.

Otherwise you can just map a drive directly to the computer in the other workgroup and skip the browsing process to find it.

- choose Map Network Drive
- pick drive letter to use
- folder: \\computername\sharedresourceName
- then choose finish

No kidding.

I'm just asking here as I personally have NO idea about this and am just throwing this out but ......

I'm looking in Computer Management and I notice under Users and Groups when you right click on Groups you have the option for a "New" group.

Would this be where you would do it and then add a new User and make it a member of the new group?

No, this is to create a group of users to allow applying of security settings to more than one user at a time.

yeah, I was just thinking of that....I guess network neighborhood and my network places is more of a gui shortcut type thing.

Because you can do pretty much all of your networking stuff thru a dos prompt using "net view" "Net use" etc etc.

And like you say you can just mapp stuff so the shortcut is there.
