Anyone know anything much about usenet?

I'm been checking out usenet lately and hmm seems like you have to pay to use it? or am I looking at the wrong website for usenet servers?

can anyone help me?

I wouldnt think u have to pay..since usenet is one of the oldest things around and one of the original "internet" type things. I have never used it though, lol...so I have no clue.

If "usenet" is just the same as a "newsgroup" then it doesnt cost anything....most ISP's have newsgroup servers etc...what ISP do you use?

You just need to get a newsgroup "reader"....I have used outlook express but everyone else says it sucks, lol....there are all kinds of freeware newsgroup readers out there. Then you just find the name of the newsgroup server for your isp and you sign in with your name and password etc.

I think I went to OE help files and searched for "newsgroups" and also I searched on my ISPs webpage for helpfiles.

A Newsgroup server is typically provided by your ISP (and normally coverd as part of your normal month Internet charge). The servers you must pay to access are typically better because they hold files longer and frequently have more complete postings.

thank you. my ISP does not have a usenet server. ass far as i know. looking around to see what I come up with.
