you cant boot form the upgrade XP cd?
With W98upgrade etc what you used to was boot from the upgrade cd and then it got to a certain point where it asks for a "qualifying product" and then you just put it the older cd or floppy from the OS you are upgrading from.
I would think the XP upgrade is supposed to work the same way. I would hope it wouldnt make you install ME all the way and then upgrade to XP....does anyone have a definite answer?

he says "After entering the code, Windows will prompt for the type of Installation you'd like to perform either 'Dynamic Update' or 'New Installation'. IF you do not want to keep the older Operating System and it's files, then you will choose the 'New Installation'. If you want to keep the earlier Operating System, ie; ME, 98, 98SE or 2000 then you will choose the 'Dynamic Update'. "
'New Installation' is probably the smartest and quickest way to Upgrade. Upon selecting this type of Upgrade, Windows will ask if you'd like to choose a file system. Click 'yes' and then NTFS. Windows will compress your Hard Drive and state whether the Hard Drive has enough space to perform this Upgrade. If enough space is available, then Windows will ask if You'd like to personalize your files by naming them. If you'd like to name the files other than 'My Documents' then I suggest renaming them. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!! IF you have files or Programs on the current Operating System before Upgrade and this type of Upgrade, cancel the installation and copy those files or folders to Disc or CD. The reasoning is, because if you choose the 'New Installation' Upgrade, it will wipe all the files and folders off the Hard Drive. I suggest un-installing ALL programs before doing the Upgrade. This type of Upgrade takes between 15-20 minutes.
So it looks to me like you would do "New Installation".....is that what you have been trying to do??
