Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 Pro Edition

Hello everyone, I was just wondering if this is a good game or not. Do you think I should buy it? I'm usually not into Flying Sims, but this one seems pretty cool. Can you guys give me some info on it?

Thanks,

Sean

Misc Welcome to TechIMO Sean

I think that if you get a flight sim, then FS2002 is the best one to get. The Pro version has a few more planes than the standard version so I went with the pro version. I also don't usually play flight sims (especially ones this realistic) so the lessons in FS2002 were most welcome as without them I woulda been pretty stuck (now I know what to do, it's just doing it that I have to master. . especially my landings ). The interactive Air Traffic Control is pretty nifty and it's a nice touch to be able to download the current weather conditions.

It's most definately a good game, so if you want a pretty spot-on flight-sim then I'll certainly recommend it. I can't comment on the multiplayer features though as I haven't bothered trying them yet.

www.microsoft.com/games/fs2002/ <--- the official website just incase you haven't seen it.

What are your system specs btw?

I dont understand how anyone can not own it but Ive bought every one and given the old copy away to start a new addiction with someone else.

If you've never Simmed before it could be boring for you and I suggest a beefy PC to run it, dont go by minimum specs. When they decide those it's with everything turned down to minimum so a flyby of NY looks more like a version from the late 1800s with the amount of buildings and detail. When you can get everything maxed out it looks increadible in comparison.

A few screens from a real world user (trimmed in size) can you guess the Eastern US city?

Wow, I also heard you can fly anywhere in the world, to ANY City. I bet that's cool.

My system Specs are:

AMD Athlon 1.0Ghz
384 MB of RAM
VisionTek GeForce3 Ti 500

Man, can you guys give me some more screenshots. If you could lol, I'm just wondering if you guys will go to Milwaukee (My hometown) and take some pics from Timmerman (sp) Airport.

Thanks alot! This should be alot of fun.

You'll be fine with those specs. I play it on a 1.2GHz T-Bird, GeForce3, 512MB @1024x768x32 w/ Anti-aliasing on and it's fine. I don't remember it looking as good as Mykex's screenshots though so i'll have to turn up some more graphics settings

You'll also want a decent joystick with twisting ability for rudder control (though there is an auto-rudder setting if your joystick doesn't have it).

There's some more screenshots and a few mpegs at that site I linked to

Two screens first is just east of Timmerman I guess approching downtown on the lake?

Then landing on it with a different plane.

Thing is though, most of FS2002 is generic generations of towns, some like NYC are done in detail. Most structures that are requiered to have lighting by the FAA are represented somehow. There's a ton of radio towers near the lake where the first screen is (almost hit one) and they should be in the right place.

It gets better though, sites like www.flightsim.com/ have tons of absolutely free downloads for the game. If someone from your town really likes the game and is a bit of a programmer you can download and add more exacting scenery. The plane in the second shot is an example, Pro comes with a seaplane but I downloaded that one. There are also more addons that you can buy then you can shake a CC# at but some of the freebies are better than the pay versions. You just have to hope whoever did you terrain mesh for your hometown was good at it.

Ohh and dont get depressed by the FPS, I run the game way too high FSAA/Triliniear/max detail/distance, objects, reflections, and 1280x1024/32.

Your PC should handle it just fine if not better, Ive got a few more mhz and RAM but you have the killler card.
