AMD issues

Recently there has been some problems with AMD processors and the game EverQuest.
Certain timers in the game will not funcion properly on machines using AMD processors.
There hasn't been any INTEL issues that I know of with EverQuest...

But I was just wondering WHY is it an AMD only problem?? How does it make any difference as to what processor you're using? Isn't a processor a processor and they both do the same task, (although somewhat differently) but ultimately they do the same thing?

Just curious.

A processor is NOT just a processor. They have written instructions embedded.

It would not surprise me in the least to find that Intel has applied some cash to the designers of EverQuest to write certain codes that AMD would not process...given AMDs written codes.

AMD would do the same (and may have) because its one of the most competitive businesses in the high tech industry.

You may have heard the old term...'everythings fair in love and war'?...same thing in these big businesses.

Indeed. Although both processors follow the x86 architecture (list of instruction sets, which in theory makes them compatible for applications in almost every way), when it comes to graphics the companies have different patented technologies.

AMD uses 3DNow!, SSE, SSE2, etc.
Intel uses MMX, (some of the newer ones I don't remember)

And these instruction sets govern how the CPU deals with certain multimedia aspects of a system. While they are built on the same basic set of rules (just like x86), they will still handle specific operations differently.

Nor would I be surprised if Intel has influenced the software development of Everquest to work against 3DNow! for their latest version

hmm... that's an interesting point... It sucks to think about how it could be the case, but it very well may be...

Either way, I'm not giving up my AMD!!!

http://eq.stratics.com/content/news/arc11-2001.shtml

Can you link any official or even semi-official news post? Or this thing going off of someone posting about how they knew a guy who new a guy who'd been told about a forum post that someone saw?

I was just asking if it IS possible for a problem to be CPU related, whether I have official news or not, didn't mean for my initial question to sound like it did... I know it reads like It was a hard fact.
