Recording Tv shows on a tuner card ?

Dumb question:

Looking into buying a tv tuner card for my pc. Main purpose would be to record tvshows like a VCR? Do I need a special card or do all of them record to hd. Id prefer a divx format is it possible ?

You can get something like the ATI TV Wonder Pro or VE and record in most formats to your HDD and then use a DivX tool to convert to the format. Maybe some cards offer to convert to divX on the fly but I dont know of any.

Yeah I thought about those ATI all in wonder cards, but would prefer some dedicated tv tuner card. What is the native format they record in ?
Could you recommend any specific make and model ? Im looking for something under 150 euros.

Well I was. The ATI TV Wonder Pro and VE modle are only TV cards. They are not part of the ATI All in Wonder Serries. They are just TV capture cards and that is it. The native capture is Mpeg but You can select Mpeg2 or a ATI format that has some special features. Pretty good setup all in all if you ask me
