Can linux run windows programs

I know it may be dumb question but just had to ask. I mean most stuff is made for windows or I would have to change everything

you can run some stuff, but ive been using alternatives for everything.

my friends all run winxp, i run gentoo.

my friends use photoshop, i use gimp

my friends use microsoft office, i use openoffice.

those are just examples.

and i tell you, i can do everything they can for that stuff, in some cases better, in some cases takes longer or has a different way of going about it.

I generally dont game except on my ps2 or gamecube, so thats not an issue to me (not having many games)

its all a matter of tastes.

You should be able to find a Linux equivalent to whatever you're needing.

If you can't find one, then WineX would probably be your best bet. The site that GZ3 recommended.

since we are talking about linux if you have a linux game server like counter strike can the other computer that are runing windows connect to the linux server.

Yes! In fact, it should work with any game that you're playing. Try and find a Linux server and attempt to join. If you can't get in, well, something else has to be the problem.

Some open source programs also run in Windows too, like: GIMP and OpenOffice.org

So you see, thanks to the opensource movement you can also get some pretty decent free programs for that other OS

dont forget about samba! http://www.samba.org/ or gaim: http://gaim.sf.net and hell, linux makes a way better server then windows. dont ever forget that one.
