XP PRO... or WIN98 SE???

I run a system with a 2.40Bghz P4, 512mb pc2700,128mb GeForce 4 Ti 4600, on a Gigabyte GA-8IEX.

I play a lot of games like Max Payne 2, BF1942, Medal of Honour etc.... and i was wondering... what would bring me the best performance? windows xp pro?... or windows 98 se?

i currently am running windows 98 se and am having problems i have neer had with xp. i think it is just stability problems. so what do you think... win xp or 98se???

Try dual booting it---experience it yourself with all the features you personally want to implement and decide---

xp is much more stable than 98 but xp uses more resources but with that system xp won't bog it down too much

Dual boot. In my experience games run better under win98se. WinXP pro is very demanding and has the refresh rate issue in games.

On the other hand XP is a tad more stable but this is not noticable under normal computing conditions.

I've been running XP Pro since it came out and have not experianced any performance problems running any games nor have I seen any "refresh rate issues" either.

I have a system that has pretty similar specs to yours. I initially set it up on WIN 98SE, then Dual booted with WIN XP (actually I set them up on different hard drives, not really a dual boot configuration). I never had a problem with either operating system, but now that I'm somewhat used to XP I really have no desire to boot 98SE.

I don't do that much gaming, (although I have played quite a bit of UT 2003 and a little Max Payne and haven't noticed any difference in performance).

Mostly, XP just has a more modern "look and feel" to me. I guess thats what other people refer to as "eye candy".

How do I do that? I know while playing CS, the game runs at 100fps.
