No shutdowns, just reboots

Hi,

Having problems with a recently fixed computer. It is running XP pro and has 192Mb ram and a AT style motherboard.

I had a problem first with it that when I shutdown it would say "you can now turn off your computer" but the power button wouldn't kill it, only a hard off with the power switch (like 10 second hold or something)...

I changed a power option in the BIOS and it worked fine, a shutdown would kill the powersupply, turn off the parts, lights, etc.

Then, just this morning, I booted it to activate XP, and after doing so tried to shut it down. It looked shutting down okay ("Please wait while windows shuts down your computer", etc) and then it goes off (ie, no video, kb lights but still power LED). After 2 seconds or so it starts itself up again. I have checked and I don't think the power button is jammed in or anything.

Any Ideas?

Koal

AT style comps are old enough so that they might not be "acpi" bios'es..they might be the older "apm" style. I dont know about the particular issues but I guess there could just be general weirdness about it, lol. I have seen some settings but cant remember where...for power button behavior...in control panel under power management I suppose.

I didnt think there was ANY way to get an AT style deal to shut down all the way.

er well it runs XP fine, and shutdowns worked before... I reset the cmos and set the settings again and it works, the power button turns it off when it shuts down not just rebooting when you tell it to shutdown

thanks anyway...

It doesnt matter if it is at factor as long as it supports atx. My first pentium based machine was built using an A-bit tx5 motherboard which was at factor but also supported atx.
