Weak sound on an ECS k7s5a

Anyone know what might be possibly causing the onbaord sound to be weak? If amplified speakers are connected then it's OK, but if I use headphones it's barely audible at full volume. Also, I have to yell into the mictophone to get it to register anything.
I've tried the simple things and tried different drivers.

I wouldn't mind getting away from the onboard sound completely, are there any sound cards that include a front panel audio header like the ones found on some MOBO's?

If ya havnt, try checking your sound properties---
Make sure the WAVE slider is all the way UP
And check the line in or Mic in---you may have to play around with that as well...

That was what I meant by the simple things , but thanks for the reply. Know anything about a sound card with the audio header?
