HELP: Should I switch OS?

I'm currently using an HP Pavilion XE783 that came "stock" with Windows Me. I've since upgraded to 2K Pro. But i;ve heard 2K Pro is too much of a resource hog for my system. It doesn't seem like it;s that bad, but anyway, it's a 3-4 year old:

ASUS CUW-AM mobo with an Intel 810 chipset running a 700 mgz Celeron.
Maxtor 120GB/8MB/7200RPM ATA/133 HDD(aftermarket upgrade)
256MB PC100 RAM(aftermarket upgrade)
On-bourd video(trying to install a GF4 Mx420 64Mb PCI Card at this very second)
Windows 2K Pro.

Now, should I downgrade to 98/98SE? Or could I even upgrade to XP with no problems?(If I ever get XP I plan to disable the colorful bullcrap the second it first boots up)

you think w2k is a resource hog but would consider loading XP on it which is THE resource hog of all the windows OS's?!

256mb is plenty of ram to run w2k on a laptop and the cpu you have is adequate also. i wouldn't run win98 on it if you have already have w2k loaded.

if you've been using the lappie straight for 3-4 years, it's probably time to reinstall windows again. probably got too much registry clutter, etc.

i would stick with w2k...

Yeah just stick with what works. Keep in mind that switching OS usually means you need to get new drivers etc. Be sure you have all the drivers for your pc before doing anything with an OS.

BTW hows that GF working out for ya?

It's a PC. And my last reformat was last spring, when I installed 2K Pro.

I have WinXP on a server with 357mhz PII and 128mb of RAM. Works fine for web surfing, emailing, etc. Not gaming though! except old ones.

About gaming on a pc like that, most games that run well were made before winXP, and prolly 2k so they might not work as well or at all with a newer OS.

go to www.blackviper.com and check out his links on "service configurations"...you can turn off some unneeded services and neither XP nor Win2k will be quite so much of a hog.
