Can you build a laptop?

Is it possible to build a laptop?? I have tons of peeps ask me if I can build them a laptop...is it possible? Or would it be cheaper just to go buy one already built?? I was thinking about the screen and stuff and I thought that that would be kinda hard to make

I just wish they would sell them with a empty hard drive.

I don't need their software or OS.

Price would be a lot cheaper.

MIGHT knock $50 off the price its not like HP/Dell is paying or charging full pop for the OS or software. Would you be willing to give up warranty/support for it? It would cost ALOT more to support them with various OSes and such.

i have been thinking that they should make a standard laptop form factor for a while but that would be so cool i hope someone else who can accually do something about it thinks of this in the next few years the only thing i can think of is cooling but i wouldnt mind if its an inch and a half thick though

laptop development is from thick to thin or miniaturization.. the possibilities of having a standard form factor is, imo, remote. but that's a good idea too to have a standard interface design so that everyone can just replace this and that in a laptop.

If you ask dell you dont want to purchase an OS they cant force it on you. A guy at my university didnt want to pay for XP b/c he hated MS and wanted to use Linux. I think he got a consumer advocates group to help him. Now Dell will force you to buy an OS if u order over the phone and ask for no OS. I go to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh PA if they ask.
