Record # of Malware from adaware??

Had a tech call..dude said his xp build was running slowww and locking up etc etc. I did the build as a matter of fact..earlier in the year...so I know it started off good.....with all windows updates etc......and xp services configured....but that WAS before I used adaware.

This particular guy..he visits some, uhh, "interesting" sites....the sort that tend to like to hijack your browser etc.

So I go over there..the comp is running terrible....click on something and it takes 4 ever to open. "My computer" wouldnt even open. It was just allllll messed up. I ran online virus scan and it was clean as far as that.

He had a few shortcuts on his desktop he couldnt get rid of...hehe...such as ones mentioning Paris Hiltons name etc. He'd delete em and theyd come back.

So I thought "he needs ad aware".

So I download it and I go to do the update for the definitions and his firewall kicked in and asked did I want to allow it and at first I accidently hit "no" but didnt realize it.....so when I scanned I had the definitions from like back in aug or sept....EVEN SO..it found over 160 instances of stuff, lol...browser hijackers, all kinds of malware, some optimizers he had etc.

THEN I realized the firewall mistake....opened it back up and got the latest definitions and found like 20 more things.

After that it ran like a champ!

JP

Whats the record??

Eeeeeeeeeeeeeek, strange some people are very good at getting infected.. lol

I had helped a friend setup his computer, after about a week or so, i go over there and notice all this junk on his computer, he managed to get a trojan, 6 virus's from kazaa, and about 120 things caught by ad aware and spybot caught a ton more.
I was tempted to take back a few things i lent him to use for being too stupid on how to use a computer
It's not like he was that bad of a n00b, guess i was wrong.

i think i got this i made my dad start using it i showed him how to scan and stuff and he did one day found 1500 he didnt know you could right click and delete them all he scrolled down and clicked them one at a time. .....the funny thing was i came home that night and updated it and scanned again there was about 30 more that it had missed before so all together that was 1530....

i just finished building a rig for my friend they were complaining that their old one kept locking up. "it cant be a virus we have norton and its up to date" well i take the old rig home fire up AVG and found 40 viruses. its a sad world

Records set at Kent State University Helpdesk.

Spyware; 672 (single box)
Both Ad-Aware & Spybot S&D

Virii; 36 (single box)
McAfee Corp. Edition

MSBlaster; 700+ (total)
Found mostly during the beginning of the semster last week of Aug. when students moved into the dorms.
We gave out 2,000 SRK(Security Readiness Kit) v4.1 disks from MS
at this time.

We have around 7,000 comps on the system(main campus +6 branche campus's), plus another 10-12,000 comps in the dorms and about another 3-4,000 or so that connect from off campus to our domain.

Around 20-25,000 total PC's!

sorry for the bad pic if you zoom in a bit you can see it is 897

also i got this commonplace spyware/adware that wont go away. I run adaware about 5 times in a row and it keeps coming back. 13 files that wont disapear it is pissing me off.

I use adaware, spywareBlaster and spybot- search and destroy
