Logitech Z-680 - S/PDIF?

I have a couple of questions before I go out and finally buy the Logitech Z-680s:

1. My DVD-drive does not have any digital out to connect to the S/PDIF on the sound card (Audigy 2 ZS). Will this limit the potential of the sound of DVDs? Or do the S/PDIF signal go through the IDE cable from the drive?

2. Will I be able to get 5.1 sound without using the digital out on my sound card, and only using the analogue cables that comes with the Z-680s?

What OS do you have? With Windoze XP you don't even need to hook up the speaker out jack on a CD-ROM or DVD. You can MAP through the computer straight to the sound card with digital output; however, you must have the OS set to do so via the 'Device Manager'.

On an 'audigy 2' you must use the digital out-jack and use an adapter. You must also have the sound card set to digital output via the Sound Blaster Mixer panel.

Yes! The only big improvement with SPDIF is less "noise".

Thanks for the replies.

I have Windows XP.

What adapter would I need? I was under the impression that I only needed a coax cable to connect from the Control Center and to the sound card?
