msdos compatibility mode

Would a win98 computer running in msdos compat mode keep it from connecting to the isp, or give it any kind of errors to prevent the computer from getting access to the internet?

No, it would just slow down data transfers between the hard drive and the computer.

Perhaps if you post what's happening, or not happening as the case may be, someone can make a suggestion.

Re: msdos compatibility mode

That's the problem I don't. This person I work with was supposed to get hooked up with charter cable. The guy told him that he had a flag that he couldn't get rid of so it won't work. He also told him he needed more hard drive space. Which the guy has 5 gig free. I'm just wondering if there is a problem or if this one tech don't know what he's talking about.

You don't need more hard drive space to install cable, since they generally don't install anything. All you need is TCP/IP installed. Sounds like the cable guy is blowing smoke. And I have no idea what kind of "flag" he's talking about.

Anyway, suggest to you tell your coworker to check out Cable Modem Help or Home Net Help for some answers.

Thanks.

Yeah and the bad thing is, is this guy is blind and I'm trying to do him a favor by finding out what is the problem is or isn't. He's basically just wanting to try it out to see if his screen reader will work with charter. Anyway I'm going to take my cable modem over their tonight and see if I can hook it up. If it works then he's just going to have to tell the charter tech that is coming tomorrow that he knows it will work now he needs to quit bs'ing around.
