Video Card Dilemma

I am torn between a FX5900 and a 9600 Pro. It would be used basically for gaming. It will go with the computer that I'm putting together. I thought I was gonna go with the FX5900, but a friend of mine said ATi's are better. I counterd his point by saying the FX5900 had better benchmarks, but I dont know. That's why I'm asking you fellas. Any input would be appreciated.

I like ATi, but of those two, the fx5900 is definitely better. If you run into a game that uses pixel shader ALOT, then the 9600 might catch up. This will probably change eventually with a driver update. These two cards weren't made to compete. 9700-9800 is the competition for the 5900.

I see, but the 9800 is quite a bit more than the 5900. I'm trying to save a penny any way I can, and I dont need the latest and greatest. Just something to run BF1942, CoD, and similar games smoothly.

And I made a mistake..I meant 9600XT, not Pro.

The 9600 is a middle range card, the 5900 is a high end solution. Yeah, the benchs will show the 5900 is better. So the 5900 is better. However, the 9600 appears to be more future proof. At this point in time, its a toss up. ATI definately has the better quality cards.
