Opinions requested on which make to go with..

I have been looking at the Abit IS7 and the Asus P4P800. Any others that can compare?

Probably will be going with a P4 3.0ghz (800 fsb)

Thanks

Mornin',

I've never built with a Asus so I don't mean to put them down but I am partial to Abit boards. I've used Abit in the last 20 or so systems I've built and have not had trouble with any of them. Currently I am using an Abit IC7-G and would recommend it to anyone who wants to build a high end system.

So what is the major difference between all the IS7's? Seems quite a few different variations. I do want dual channel DDR for sure as this is going to be my gamer system.

Make sure you get one that can do 'PAT'

Currenty using MSI 865PE Neo2

Very nice board. No raid, no IEEE 1394a, On-board LAN, On-board Sound, 2 SATA connectors, 4 dimm sockets, supports dual channel memory.

Awesome board. Love it.

What does PAT do? And which boards have it?

PAT (Performance Acceleratin Technology) delivers additional system-level performance by optimizing memory access between CPU and system memory on 800-MHz FSB and Dual Channel DDR 400 configuration.
Officially only i875 chipsets have PAT. Some motherboard manufacturers have found a way to implement it onto i865 chipsets. PO'd Intel to the point that manufacturers can't call it PAT so they came up with a different name for it.
I'm not sure what they call it or which mothernoards have it.

Gerry

Here's a link if you want more info PAT

I've built two systems with the Asus p4p800 and they've both been rock solid so far.
