Systems Uru: Ages beyond Myst

Does anyone at techimo have this game? My son and I would like to get it. However, the requirements say that it is perferable NOT to use a cdrw. We have both have liteon 52x32x52 cdrws. Does this requirement mean that we should use just a plain cd rom drive? And if so, why?

At first alot of the older cdrw's were pretty LOW read speed compaired to regular cdroms. Only reason I can think of. As with todays cdrw's saying they arent as good as reg cdrom is bull hookey. A cdrw can read more formats and tuffer copy protection FASTER than any cdrom, ALOT faster. Maybe they are affraid folks will copy it? Dunno-but I would say its totally safe. Never heard of such a thing. I play games on both my cdrw and my dvdrom.

I got Uru for Christmas, from my wife.

The graphics are pretty awesome with my old GF3 card.

However: Liteon was one of the brands listed in the readme file as having "known problems" with this game. I'd check with the Uru website to see the full list of issues. Hopefully the latest stuff is posted there.

So far this is a cross between Myst and Quake. Ok, you don't really kill things (yet!) but you can walk or look anywhere, jump over stuff, and even fall off of tall stuff. If you "die", you actually just re-spawn at your own private island. In a cloud somewhere. Don't walk off the edge!

You can only save the game at certain "waypoints". In fact, it's automatic.

PS: Riven was pretty cool! I'd get a copy if you like adventure games. (A couple parts are really difficult, though. There was this thing with a frog... took me forever, until I decided to cheat.)
