a program to play real media files?

Weather its real audio or video, the only program that I know of to play these files is real player, and its chockful of spyware, and runs a lot of background program, changes internet settings, and constantly needs access to the internet for some reason. Is there a program out there that will let me let me use real media files, with out ruining my computer?

Look for RealPlayer 8, not RealOne Player. RealPlayer 8 doesn't have all the bad stuff and runs just fine w/ XP. During the install, be sure to disable all the "crap" that wants to connect back to Real.com and turn off the Start Center.

yeah, you have to uncheck a lot of stuff...I use the free one from their site, whichever it is. You may have to do a "custom" install where you have choices for stuff..or else you make those choices at the end of the install....I always uncheck as much stuff as possible and just leave it checked for "real" type files..uncheck all the crap for auto updates or such stuff.

Do you have adaware?? If not, get it, lol.

The RealOne Player still has a "phone home" app that gets put in the registry even if you remove it, or even rename the file. That's why I recommend RealPlayer 8.

Of course.

Behold, the power of Google.

EDIT - Holey Schnikeys! Click on the "public-setups.html" and you'll see they have SubSeven.

From the Symantec site:

SubSeven is a Trojan Horse, similar to Netbus or Back Orifice, which enables unauthorized people to access your computer over the Internet without your knowledge.
