In need of BIG help, windows xp died?

I have a super huge problem....

I have Windows XP home edition

Whenever I boot up it hangs on the windows welcome blue screen for about 45 seconds.. Which is wayy longer than the normal 5 - seconds.

Next I get nothing but an open folder displaying my folders on my hard drive.

There is NO taskbar, start bar or whatever that bar at the bottom with the start button is called.

There is no desktop... Just my desktop wallpaper and 1 explorer window open.

I'm really confused and have no idea what to do... Please someone help me x_x

I will answer any any all questions you have.

I think it has something to do with a virus I recently recieved... I was trying to fix it, and I think I messed up something serious. I went to Trend's virus checker and deleted all the files that were infected including System32.exe which I thought didn't matter because nothing happened but an error message. Then to get rid of the error message I searched google for a fix and came across this website..

http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com...?threadid=6967

Where I did what they suggested.. I checked for viruses with the panda scanner and cleaned 2 infected files, next I did what "ESALADUANE" said and followed his instructions doing this:

"Try this: Start > Run > (type) regedit > OK

Hkey_local_Machine/software/microsoft/windows nt/current version/winlogon

1. In the right box go to shell - if it reads "Explorer exe windows\system32\system32.exe" ,then
2. Right click on shell
3. Open modify and delete windows\system32\system32.exe (Leave Explorer Exe.)
4. Exit regedit and Reboot.

The added "windows\system32\system32.exe" is what should be deleted, not the entire string."

Then I rebooted... And that's when things got totally messed up.

Please someone help me

Welcome to the forum!

there just was a thread on this....he probably accidently did the same thing.

Try this....boot to the XP cd....do a "repair" install..not the first repair option, go past that..then it'll search for and find your present windows install, from there choose "repair". Good chance thatll fix it and you wont lose personal files etc.

If you choose the first "repair" that just takes you to the "recovery console" which is like a dos prompt....so dont pick the first repair, pick the second one.

Good luck, JP

By the way, this is what the other guy did and it worked.
