$5.00 Start up problem XP

2800+ @ 3200+
1.5gig PC3200 @ 333
120gig 8mcache WD HDD
XP PRO SP1

Okay- this is getting frustrating. When I boot my computer- it takes like 2-1/2 minutes to get to where if I click on something I don't some kind of funky behavior. What I mean is- if I click on "My Computer" too soon, I get the little flashlight searching thinger, if I click on my DSL connection it does nothing until after the 2 minutes. If I click on the start button more than once, everything in the taskbar freezes up to where I can't click on it including the start button. Also the little black "shortcut" arrows on my desktop icons don't show up until after the 2 minutes, at which time the desktop seems to 'refresh' and the arrows show up and everything works normally.

The biggest problem is I got DSL and downloaded a bunch of updates and stuff and installed them so I don't know at what point this really started happening. I used system restore to revert back to before I had the DSL but that didn't help. I can use Supend to ram and when the system wakes up it works immediately as it should.

I have everything disabled in the startup tab of msconfig, have run adaware and spybot and HouseCall and diskkeeper. Also the taskmanager doesn't say that anything is using CPU cycles during the 'lag' time.

Does anyone have any ideas at all?!?!?

I'l send you 5 bucks via paypal if you can solve this problem. Really.

I'd say you need to run a reg cleaner but new fomrat and reinstall is always good to do once in awhile. Sounds to me like either you have a lot of old clutter built up in the registry or some unknown defice/program conflicts that may not show up. you can always defrage the hdd and run scandisk might take a day or two but ya never know

I'll second the format and reinstall. Freaky problems like that just aren't worth dealing with sometimes.

I'll take $2.50 via PayPal Payment addy = chris@implexantsystems.com

Good luck on your problem.
