Getting me a NEW Cable Modem

Ok all, I'm tired of paying $5 a month to rent my cable modem from my ISP. So, being that they're now more affordable, which is a good one to get? I was thinking for going with a D-LINK or LinkSYS. I'm sure they all do the same thing, but does one out perform the other? Perhaps there is another brand better.

one thing you could do is call your tech support peeps and ask em if they have trouble with any certain brands. Cuz all they do is answer tech calls all day.

I was using a toshiba for cable but now I am on dsl.

I bought mine used from anadtech forum for like $35ish.

It's cool, I think im gonna get me a Motorola Surfboard. It's retailed at $70 but if you go to Best Buy and sign up with a new ISP you get the modem for free. Since I'm moving, that's what I'm gonna do, not too shabby.

You can't go wrong with the Surfboard

I've got the SB5200 and almost always get 90%+ of my advertised speed, plus my uploads are faster than the RCA modem that Charter rents out.

It's lame, Comcast caps their upload at 256kb. What's that all about!
