Gaming Windows Wont Boot

Recently installed new mobo, cpu, and memory.

Asus P4PE-X, Intel P4 2.6C, Kingston 512mb PC2700.

After the post, the computer will reboot itself, and then give the following error message (paraphrased):

Windows did not load properly because of either a hardware or a software change you may have made. If you want to try your last successful configuration, press enter, otherwise, select another option.

Options:
Last Successful
Safe Mode
Safe Mode w/ Command Prompt
Safe Mode w/ Network
Normal

NONE of the options work, they all end up rebooting as soon as Windows XP-H trys to load. I tried disabling some options in the bios such as HyperThreading, and PnP O/S enable/disable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
-James

Ahhh, you say recently installed.....did you do a fresh install of windows? I gather that you just put in the new mobo and stuff on the old install...I dont think you can do that.

What you might have to do is take your hard drive and go to another xp machine..put your hard drive in on the secondary ide and save your data and stuff that way, burn it to a cd or whatever.

Or else you could (gasp) do something like lay the old motherboard and other stuff out on a table and boot it up with your hard drive that way, and save data etc...

or...you didnt mention this either..will it boot to the windows XP cd? Maybe try "repair" Installation...but Im not sure if that would bail you out either.

Well the Old Mobo/CPU is MELTED. So I can't really do that, I'll try the XP boot cd.

O, lol. I have a ECS board that could possibly end up with shotgun holes in it..but I never thought of melting one, though I do have access to some welding stuff.

Well I didn't melt it on purpose, but anyway, I have full access to the XP Recovery Console. Any Ideas from there?

I don't, I like to keep my files, I didn't plan to have to upgrade my mobo/cpu.

not much you can do...you can try "repair" install...not the first 'repair" that leads to the recovery console but go past that and I think it searches and finds your windows install and you pick 'repair" from there.

other options....take a spare hard drive and install XP on it..boot from it and get your saved files from the other drive....

cool deal. I know that Msoft doesnt recommend swapping boards without a reinstall etc...but there are usually ways around things...in your case you didnt have much of a choice.
