mIRC and linksys

when ever i try to download something off of IRC
i cant... it says connection failed..
i also have this problem with trillian and aim...
when i want to send some1 a file or some1 wants to send me something... it just doenst work.. im pretty sure its the router...
i heard that i have to open a port or something... how do i do that...
where do i go once i connect to the router...

I have had no problems sending or receiving files behind one linksys router doing NAT, and then behind another DLINK doing NAT. So I wouldnt imagint it is a port forwarding problem.

How are your dcc options set up? mIRC should give you an error on the dcc failure, that should be indicative, or at least helpful in identifying the problem.
