VERY BIG MODEM PROBLEM!!!
I have a problem in running modems. I can connect in the internet, my Windows XP Professional w/
SP1 is all right. I even reinstalled it. BUT, after connecting in the internet w/ my 56K modem (
I'm using dial-up and internal 56K modem, by the way), during a few minutes, the connection stops
working, I mean it's not blinking and responding (in the taskbar) so I have to disconnect again
and reconnect but after a few minutes, it stops responding again. I already tried replacing new
modems but the same problem occurs. It's not an ISP problem because my other Windows XP computer
works fine. There are also no problems with my telephone line.
Is it possible that the problem is in motherboard and I need to replace it?
I thought of replacing the motherboard from my working computer to the defective one but my
working computer is Pentium 4 and the defective one is Pentium 3.
I ask other INEXPERIENCED people, and they said it might be the Pentium III Processor problem
which I think has no connection with modems because the processor just processes instructions,
right? CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG!
PLEASE, I need help with this and needs to solve it immediately. Tell me if I'll need to buy a
new motherboard. OR ANY OTHER SOLUTIONS?

Before you start talking about replacing the MOBO you need to do more troubleshooting. Go to the device manager and select the modem- check to see if it is functioning properly, run a query, view the log, check for driver updates. Uninstall and reinstall. Before you replace the MOBO install a PCI modem, they only cost a few bucks. Also, plug into a separate phone jack and try. Try different access numbers. Basically, exhaust the cheap and easy options before you do something costly and/or drastic.

Welcome to TechIMO!!
I seriously doubt the PIII or the MB is your problem.
Check this site out to see if it helps. Windows XP & Modem Disconnects

I already tried all what you have said, I also went to the Modem Troubleshooting Websites and I always update my drivers.
My only question is "Is it possible that modem problems is because of motherboard problems?"

The link that Bill posted is your best bet. Make sure you have the correct drivers installed. That is the problem half the time.

I already have the msblast remover from Symantec and also tried putting the modem on the other slot, but the problem persists.
I ALSO ALWAYS UPDATE MY DRIVERS. I even use the older and newer modem that I have but the problem persists.
I also hear some noisy dialing on the modem and sometimes that noise takes a long time (shoosh shooooosh shooosoohshso). That kind of sound that takes around 1 minute which is actually too long so I think it's really the motherboard, don't you think?

I Don't think it is the motherboard. Try this- call the ISP and go through the configuration with the help desk.
