Uninstalling Internet Explorer

I've been an Opera user for quite some time now, and I've been cleaning my computer of programs that I never use. I've never been big on having more microsoft things around than necessary, so I want to uninstall IE. Windows must not like that idea though, because it isnt in the Add/Remove programs list to unistall. I did find its directory, but I'd prefer a clean uninstall instead of just deleting files. Does anyone know a way around this?

I may be wrong but I think that it is intergrated into other system files that unstalling it is next to impossible, maybe just disabling it would be enough

there' is a way to do it however there really shouldn't be a reason for it. And you might want to keep it around for those sites that opera doesn't render correctly. But if you still feel the need then you have to find a site that explains win98 lite or xp lite {i think they have it for xp now} dig around through some of the posts or google it and they will give step by step. For win 98 lite I think you have to have an old win95 cd not aure about any of the other newer os's

oh I just checked, it is there, add/remove programs

I've always heard that it isn't a good thing to do, why do you want to remove it??

using add/remove doesn't copmletly remove IE it just allows you to repair or restore previos versions. You have to jump through some hoops to remove it completly from most os's It might be a littel differet if your using xp I don't know as I don't use it but I still think there are a few extra hoops to jump through

my brother accidently removed most of IE from his computer... got kinda messy

the IE folder was almost completely empty, and if you manually started IE (not using an icon) then a browser came up with the windows symbol in the top right, with a netscape symbol below, and the opera o below that... then his computer froze and reset...

Well Opera is set as my default browser, but often when i click on links that are elsewhere besides a browser window, it will open it in IE. I guess removing it isn't a good idea, though.
Also running windows 98.
