USB CDRW Drive problems

Hi,

I have a machine that has a USB CDRW Drive attached to it. It seems to work just fine and dandy if it isn't plugged in at start up. If it is the PC just hangs, unplug the Drive and away it goes.

The PC is a Compaq Prosignia Desktop, P3 550 running Win 98SE

The Drive in question is a FreeCOM Classic CDRW 52X24X52 USB 2

The Software driving it is Easy CD Creator Basic 5

If anyone has any ideas as to what the problem is or a cure I would be very appreciative for thatr info

Hi,

To clarify what I typed earlier.

The user of this machine wanted to use this CDRW Drive to create backups or extra copies of a couple of folders that she may be asked about info of 24/7 during this time of year. The Drive makes Backups no probs with MSBackup and also writes no problems with Direct CD in Easy CD Creator.

If this drive is left plugged into the USB Port when the PC is started in the mornings it hangs at the first Compaq Screen. Unplug the USB Drive and the machine will boot normally. PLug the DRive in again and it all works just fine and dandy.

I have looked in the Boot DEvices setup and can't disable the Boot from CD Rom but have set this to 3rd behind the A and C Drives.

I hope this has made what I was asking a little clearer.
