Kids Can you tell me if this video card is worth buying?

I am debating whether to get this video card, upgrading from a 9000 pro. I've heard mixed opinions about the 9800se. Mainly that it's just a glorified 9600 because of the 4 pipes. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Here's the link

Not for that price. You can get a 9600 Pro for just $30 more at Mwave.com

They've also got a 256MB version for less than the SE you linked to.

EDIT - I thought your's said $136, the Mwave.com prices are almost the same. Go to Mwave.com to get a Pro, retail version.

I've heard that the "SE's" are choked down versions, and the "Pro's" are faster.

How do you like the 9000 Pro?

The SE's are 128-bit, I believe that's the only difference as far as the card. Benchmarks tell a different story.

any reason you say the 9600 pro is better than a 9800se? I know that the architecture is somewhat different (for the VPU, at least). I've heard nothing but bad things about the 9600 chipset...

It's a reliable card, that plays most of today's games at the highest settings no problem. Deus Ex 2 was the first game that really strained the system. The card is a friends, and he's wanting it back, so i'm looking to upgrade in the process.

Oh man, I thought it was a 9600SE, I miss-read it.

I'll go back to what I was doing.

9800 se and 9600pro are pretty much similar in FPS. THe 9600 has the LOW pawer consumption-low heat .13 fab gpu. Thats the only Major diff. And a few mainboard bios's needed flashed just to recognise it proper and boot. LOL. No such issue ever came of the 9800 core. So its pretty hard descision between the two. Me I just said the heck with it. And got the 9800 NON pro-non Se for little more. Was $250. But newegg is out and they are getting pretty hard to find. So I see your delema. But theres not really a cut and dry answer to it. Your gonna have to base it on price you can get each at-what extra's the 9800 core has vs power useage/lower heat of small fab 9600. And then choose.

johnny, please only post your question once. Multiple threads are confusing.

My vote still goes for the 9800 non-pro or the 9600xt.
