Laptop Problems

I have a sharp laptop with win xp and when I switch it on with the mains adapter, it boots up to the point where you have the Sharp logo and at the bottom it has press F2 to enter configuration.
It wont let me press F2 so I think the keyboard maybe broken but after about 30 seconds the laptop beeps continuously and I have to switch off to stop it.
Any one any ideas?

sounds to me like a hardware problem.. when was the problem started happening? did the machine just suddenly acted like that? if you have experience opening up the laptop, you check if the cpu cooler/fan is functioning otherwise have it checked to a sharp repair center.

Why beeps continuously? Could it be battery low?

So basically ur saying that nothing happens when you press F2? That could be a keyboard problem but never try fix it alone by yourself. Bring it over to the shop, if u still have a warranty then take the advantage.
Otherwise, it would probably cost quite a bit.

Long Beep-Stuck Key maybe...Maybe memory.... beep codes can vary by bios manufacturer-someone gave me a sweet link to beep codes once- gotta dig it up...it was in one of the posts here, a few months ago...If you open the lappy up good bet you'll void the warranty call sharp first and see how dull they are...

just a small suggestion to see what the problem is but try putting in an external kb and see if you can press f2 on that but i wouldnt go about trying to repair the kb just take it in and if its not under warranty shell out the extra cash

Thanks for all your help.
I have managed to get in now, it was one of 2 ways I attached the battery as well as the power lead and also tried to boot with a floppy and now comes in ok apart from being slow. Also got a message 'check disk for consistency', so looks like there maybe a hard disk problem. Cant get into the mmc either so will probably try a re-install of xp and see how I get on.

Also plugged in external keyboard as only some buttons work on the laptop.
