Hard Drive problem!!!!!!

I am trying to get some of my friends labwrite ups off his maxtor that recently decided to be stupid. The windows install currpted, can't get the data there, When I add it to my computer and try to access it it says something about I can not access it. Then when I use a dos boot off a cd when i try to acces that folder it says too many paramiters. What am I to do?

What os was on it? and what os is on your comp?

I think you should be able to put the drive on your secondary IDE...boot into safe mode...then open a dos windows and copy the files over to your hard drive.

XP and xp I wil try to boot in safe mode.

Note that you/we can't fix hard disk if it is corrupted. Try format the hard disk and if it is not okay, most likely destroyed...opps

The os is cruppeted. It also has a smart error. I can acess everything but that dam folder. The safe mode thing did not work. Its a maxtor(would never happen to a western digital).

oh, what you might need to do is put the user account from the old hard drive onto the new system to access the old drive from it.

like is the user name on the old one was "JonDough" then you may need to create a "JonDough" account on the new comp to get into the old drive.
