Burning discs causes system to reboot...

When I burn cd's, after a while the system will reboot itself. It started gradually, now it does it after every 3/4 cd's.
My guess is the psu as it is a 300w running an XP2600 128 ATI 120HDD & 1G ram.
It's been great for 6 months but started to play up about a week ago.
Anyone got any other ideas?

I have read other posts where the PSU was the problem when a machine was struggling or rebooting while burning.

A laser consumes a heck of a lot more power when burning than when reading..so..yes, I think I would try another PSU if possible.

One other thing, just because it is a 300 watt supply, does not necessarily mean it will supply 300 watts continuously ..nor a decent power level to the rail needed to run the machine and when the machine needs some extra, it is not there.

Do you have Motherboard Monitor loaded on your machine so that you can see what the voltages are...especially during burning?...

The board is a Gigabyte 7N400 Pro. It comes with a utility manager so I will check this out. I have a 350w psu spare so I will take out the 300w and put the 350w in.
Thanks for your help
cheers

dazhan1,
I have the pro, let me see if I can help?
What Ide is the burner connected to?

Are you using the nvidia sw ide drivers or the boxed ms drivers?

Youre gonna need strong 12v,5v, and 3v outputs for that board, it has proven itself over and over.

If you list the full sys specs, all drives, which model video, ect.. that would help, also here is a link to a gigabyte nforce faq
Gigabyte New Owners FAQ

If you need anymore info on your board, holla

The burner is connected to Ide 2. The HDD is connected to Ide 1.
I have used the ms drivers.
I will get the system back this weekend when I can have a proper look at it.
I reckon the bigger psu should solve the problem though.
