Changing drive Designation letter (c:) (d:) ect..

DOES ANYONE KNOW:

how do you change the boot volume drive designation letter in Win xp?

i already know how to.....:

right click on my computer
click manage
click disk management

but the device you boot from (my hard drive) cannot be changed!

Do i need to buy the newest partition magic to accomplish this?

Thanks alot for the help, i know you guys tweak the hell outta Windows XP

No other partitions on the booting drive.......if i did have another Harddrive and loaded WinXP.....then tried to change the drive letter on the old booting drive then maybe it would work? But would it go back to the same letter once i removed the installed harddrive? Maybe there is only one way to find out......
