VIA's new drivers still don't work

Hey guys. I finally got a Radeon 9700 Pro AIW so my machine would be ready for Doom3 coming out in April.

I read how VIA re-released its Driver for its chipsets in order to fix a "Delayed Write" error. So when I got my Radeon, I was using the older drivers so I thought it was just the new ones.

I installed the card and installed using the RETAIL CD drivers that came with the card. It booted great the first time and I watched TV and played DVDs but never turned off the PC till I went to bed.

Then I rebooted and got those nasty delayed write errors. So I erased my hd and just went to work and downloaded the new drivers (both VIA and ATI) and came back and installed them. Upon the reboot, the computer did the delay write errors.

I thought I may have done the install incorrectly so I low level formatted my disk and reinstalled windows xp. I reinstalled the drivers and it did the same thing again.

I read the (again) that VIA patched this up. I have to disagree with this.

I am running (specs)
VIA P4PB Motherboard
Intel Celeron 2.4GHz
512 PC3200 DDR (both Kingston HyperX sticks)
ATI Radeon AIW 9700 Pro (128MB AGP8x)
40GB WD Hard Drive (ATA133)
20GB Maxtor Hard Drive (ATA133)

Any ideas of what I am doing wrong?

thronka......I don`t have an answer but a similar situation that by adding the two together we might find an answer. I, too, have a VIA chipset P4 motherboard AGP 8x and a Celeron 2.4 but have been trying to use a GeForce 4 XF5600. This combo has caused me nothing but grief. The vid card is my problem since I can drop back and get fine results with a basic GeForce 4SE 128mb. I`ve been tempted to buy an Intel 3.06 which the board can handle just to see if it`s the CPU but it`s still out of my price range.
Then again, it could very possibly be the VIA chipset. A different mobo would be cheaper than the big CPU.
Sorry, no answers...just more questions..........Gary

I found a fix. Its the AGP Aperture Size. Put it to 32 and it will work around it. Dunno why but that works.

I haven't heard about this delayed write error, what is it all about? Do you actually get an error message on the screen? Maybe this is the cause of some my troubles. I also have a VIA P4X400 chipset.
