Random bright flashes during game!

While playing Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy I get what appears to be random and very quick, and very bright white flashes across the entire screen. They seem random, that is, they seem to happen without a pattern, although they do seem to happen somewhat more often during intense gameplay such as fighting with the light sword.

I also notice that my rail voltages dropped a bit while playing. For example, my 3.3 rail dropped to a low of 3.12 and my 5 rail dropped to a low of 4.81. I don't know if that has anything to do with anything.

Can anyone enlighten me on what this is? Peculiar to Star Wars games, or games in general, or something within my system?

I had the same problem when my machine was on the blink, and all games using the quake 3 engine were playing up. Make sure your drivers are up to date. That's all you can do really. Worked for me.
