zone alarm wrecking havoc !

I just dl 'd zone alarm because I now have highspeed and need a firewall. Now, I can't get any email. My dad is still trying to get our account working and I think he did but since we've had zonealarm it gives us a connection error everytime we try to open outlook express. If we dissable ZA we can read our emails but that's kind of a pain to be dissabling and enabling back and forth. I have already tried turning off the email protection in the email part of ZA but that didn't seem to do anything.
Help!

Thanks

Go into program control/programs and see what you have blocked.
make sure your mail program has a green check.

Also check your server settings inside OE. Sometimes security programs change them without telling you (although I haven't known ZA to do this). For instance, PC-cillin will change your pop-server to "local host."

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop1.sympatico.ca', Server: 'pop1.sympatico.ca', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

This is the error I get when i try to open OE Only when ZA is enabled.

I'm not to literate with email settings or internet settings so please don't get too technical without explaining yourself.

Thanks

um I had something similar happen..

If you have any virus checkers on give them full access to the net in zone alarm and try it then.

Send a message via Yahoo to ntsu75
I am having the same problems as Computer. OE kept giving me errors, unable to recognize my connection. I finally contacted my ISP, who suggest I disable ZA. Once I did that, I was able to send/receive email. Still having a problem, with OE, able to recieve emails but can not read them. Everytime I try to read them the system hangs, I end up going into the task manager and end the task

he probably clicked no when zonealarm came up asking if a program (like an antivirus email scanner or OE itself) asked to connect to the internet.

first thing do you have a virus scanner?

you need to allow generic host process to communicate with the internet or you will continue to have those problems... however u never have to let anything run as a server, so whenit asks you if you would like to allow it to access the internet select yes and then when it asks you to allow to act as a server select no...
