Really Odd CD-RW behavior
I've got an MSI Dragonwriter 48x/16x/48x CD-RW that I've had for about a year and a half now.
Using Windows XP Profession w/ sp1 installed
Recently I've tried burning a few CDs and have had a hell of a time.
Basic situation seems to be this..
I start up nero, add files etc, then when I start the burn process, it seems to get stuck in the spot when it starts to fill the buffer and then burn. (it starts with like the typical 5% or whatever), then sits there indefinately.
Nero will allow me to "stop" the burn, but it never stops. The little red light keeps flashing and the Cd-rom wont eject.
Also, whenever I try to close the process (nero.exe) from the task manager, I click on yes to abort the process and it appears to do nothing (nero.exe still remains in the processes tab, using no processing power and only like 5000 kb of memory).
I have to restart the computer b4 I can stop the thing was "burning" and allow me to take the CD out.
Now the odd thing is, it does this very inconsistently.
Prolly 1/2 to 2/3 times it will do this, but on the other occasions it works flawlessly.
Could the CD-rw be going bad, or do you think it could be software related?
I've installed a couple dvd-authoring programs lately (tmpgenc and tmgenc dvd author), but that was a decent while ago and I really cant remember having any problems specfically after I installed them).
I'm pretty clueless other than suspecting the drive is going bad
Anyone else have an opinion?
Thx, Vhockey
---edit---
oh ya, sometimes it acts kind of sluggish when I put a Cd in it to read as well, but these were cds burnt by the drive itself
