No windows Pro on HP AMD laptops???
Hey I was just checking out HPs website, they aren't offering Windows XP Pro as an operating system on AMD laptops. I called them up and sure enough, NONE of their AMD laptops (compaq laptops included) can have Windows XP Home installed on them. They had them last month, anyone know what the story is? Gee right in time for Christmas, kind of looking funny...

Did you guys actually try to customize them, or just look at the quick specs? The quick specs say Windows XP Pro or home, but when you actually go to customize them, or order one already pre-configured, there's no option for Windows XP Pro. And after actually speaking to them on the phone, the salesperson confirmed that windows XP Pro is not available on any AMD laptop.

I just called back, and asked why Windows XP Pro wasn't available on any of the Athlons, and the salesperson told me that it might be because of the holiday season, no copies of Windows XP Pro available for Athlons that are in stock, and then asked if I'd be interested in a Pentium 4 with Windows XP Pro. I asked her why they had copies of Windows XP Pro for Pentiums but not for Athlons and she said she didn't know.
Not trying to stir up another conspiracy theory here, but anyone know if the "holiday season" reason is legit? I guess it's possible they're built somewhere else and then sent out to a main warehouse or something, but come on, it's an operating system, and last I knew there wasn't any kind of Windows shortage.

Sorry for the confusion, on my original post I guess I had left out the "Home" on Windows XP. It's only Windows XP Pro, that's not being offered on the Athlons. So in other words, the only operating system (at the time of this post) that you can get installed on an AMD laptop, is Windows XP Home. This being out of stock reason sounds like a crock, because if that were the case, shouldn't only the preconfigured systems be affected? If I customize my own, they're going to have to adjust RAM, HD, Processor, etc, so I'm assuming they'd be doing a clean OS install, how can they not have a copy of Windows XP Pro in stock to install? Especially if they have them for the Intel Laptops? I know it's not a big deal to install an OS, but I don't want to pay for a copy of Home if I'm not going to use it.

i sounds like they might have made the decision to bundle home w/the amd systems and pro w/intel.
if you are customizing, see if there is an option to select pro. if not, i would call them and verify if the lack of xp pro is only a temporary shortage issue or if it is no longer available at all.

I just checked out at HP. You have to admit though that the AMD is a great bargain. I'm leaning to purchase one.
