Welcome to TechIMO!!!!

That is running pretty hot. How many fans u got and what type of HSF?? U have thermal compound on it right. It is not in danger of burning up but most people like having it a little cooler than that. As long as you aren't having any problems it should be fine. I would recommend that you find a way to bring it down though.

Like MitaDC says, those temps are considered pretty high, but certain mobo/BIOS/CPU combinations are notorious for inaccurate temp reporting.

What mobo and CPU do you have? Also, are you experiencing any heat-related issues such as lock-ups, BSoDs, spontaneous reboots, etc.? Are those temps at idle, or are you running something like SETI@Home, which keeps the CPU at 100% utilization?

i don't know what is a HSF (i'm from portugal) lol..but if you are talking about the cooler, is the original from the cpu..the one that came with it. i have a fan in the back of the computer (1 extra) and the geforce's fan. i don't understand what is the thermal compound sorry. =P

jmichna...my mobo is a asus a7v8x-x and my cpu is an athlon xp 2800+ (but i don't know if it is the 2800+ barton...i only know that works at 2.08ghz)...
about heat-related issues i have some lock-ups..(BSoDs ???)..spontaneous reboots rarely...some programs like games close themselves (not minimize) returning to desktop..

the temp that i got from asus probe was only with some peer-to-peer progrs and 2 chat progs running..temp reaches 60ºC and more (61, 62) when i'm playing 3D games (also running the peer-to-peer and chat progs)...i don't know that SETI@Home. =P

i was thinking in buying something to cool down my cpu..like a new cooler (cpu fan i don't know what you call it).

Send a message via ICQ to Cruez Send a message via AIM to Cruez
I think mine runs around 55° running UD 24/7, at least that is what bios is reporting.. with my XP 2500

You might want to download a standalone temp monitor like MotherboardMonitor. The Asus probe temp is usually cooler than the actual temperature of the chip. MBM uses the on-chip thermo for a much more accurate reading.

If you're looking for a new cooler, I recommend the Thermaltake SilenBoost for AMD chips. It's quiet, and it's one of Tt's best coolers. You do pay a bit more for it though.

Since you are getting errors that are likely heat-related, then it's pretty safe to assume the temperatures being reported are fairly accurate.

HSF = Heat Sink + Fan
BSoD = "Blue Screen of Death" (Windows goes to a blue screen with white text displaying error message)

A few things to check out:
- Verfiy that the Heat Sink is making good contact with the CPU core (there is a ledge on the CPU socket, and a corresponding indentation on the heat sink base, so make sure the heat sink is not sitting on that ledge.
- The retail heat sink comes with thermal tape, however, most folks find that a good thermal compound such as Arctic Silver 3 or Arctic Silver 5 will provide better heat transfer and better cooling than thermal tape.
- The air flow direction of the fan should be blowing down toward the heat sink
- How warm is the room that the computer is located? If you are much above about 21-22°C, you will have a difficult time keeping your CPU cool without resorting to a better heat sink.
- Along those lines, is the computer located in a well ventillated area, and not stuck in an enclosure?

I've got a 2600+ barton running at 2.2ghz (3200+) with a Thermalright SLK-947u and a enermax 92mm fan on it and AS Ceramique. The temp is always ~30C. I do have a big case with 4 fans in it though.

55C sounds a bit high for a 2500+

yep i checked all that and it's well.
a new cooler doesn't include thermal compound?if yes...is that good thermal compound?

my room's temp is now about 10ºC..that's what concerns me 'cause in summer temp usually is 30-35ºC.and i would like to overclock this too

with all this which is the best cooler that i can get?...and which is the best cooler that i can get for a low price?

i saw some "aero" something in a store right next to my home for a good price (i think)...

I really like the ThermalRight brand... I've got two AX-7s in service on an OC'ed TBred-B 1800+ @2.0gHz and on a Barton 2500+ @2.1gHz. Just bought an SLK900A to go with the Barton.

The SLK900A, SLK900U and SLK947U are the current top-of-the-line ThermalRights.

This is a good source for specific HS info and reviews, plus they have a very good database comparing the effectiveness of many heat sinks under standardized, controlled test conditions, and give results in °C/Watt, so you can directly compare different HSs. Lower °C/W is better
