My Wish List

Ok, so I asked my mom for a computer for Christmas and I am in the process of building one on newegg.com. Im not looking to spend more than about $1200 sans shipping. Its gonna be used mainly for gaming. Tell me what you think:

-Aspire Silver Turbo Case Super Light Weight Heavy Duty Aluminum Server Case w/ 420W Power Supply and Side Panel Window...$95

-AMD Athlon XP 2500+ "Barton", 333 FSB, 512K Cache Processor - OEM...$86

-Epox nForce2 Motherboard for AMD Processors, Model "EP-8RDA3+" RETAIL...$95

-Seagate 120GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive, Model ST3120026AS, OEM...$103

-Corsair Value Select (Dual Pack) 184 Pin 1G(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - OEM...$161

-Geforce FX 5900, 128MB DDR...$196

-LG Electronics DVD+RW/-RW Mulitformat Drive...$134

-KDS XF-7I (Beige) 17" Xtreme Flat CRT Monitor...$128

-Cooler Master JET 7 ACB-V83 CPU FAN for AMD XP 3200+ and higher...$45

-Logitech Cordless MX Duo USB/PS2 104keys...$76

Overall that comes to about $1,100. I'll get a floppy drive too...

Thanks for looking at all that.

Get the Maxtor SATA drive, only a few dollars more and it comes with a 3-year warranty instead of a 1year warranty.

I'll just do what I'm doing on the computer I'm on now. Run AVG/Adaware/Spybot/Defragger once a week. The main thing to keeping this puppy healthy is my 11 year old brother wont be on it to crap it up. Even with him downloading viruses, the eMachines I'm on now still chuggs along. I cant wait to get this system and play BF1942 with minimal studdering. (Assuming I can manage to build it myself)

i would say if you dont really need it dont get a dvdrw drive. just get a dvd rom drive and a cdrw drive (or a dvd/cdrw combo and a normal cd drive).

you should also run a firewall like zonealarm.

it seems like it would be hard to put the system together but once you start it's easy

you didn't list a thermal compound so i would suggest artic silver 5 or ceramique.

Great config. I think the Seagate might be more quiet though.

I told him to get arctic silver 5 so thats going to be his thermal compound.

Also, he said he didn't care about noise. And maxtors aren't really that loud to begin with.

If it is the first time you're building a computer, you should really try to find a full guide on how to do it right down to the last screw.

It'll save alot of headaches and any chances that you might screw up any of your parts.

Anyone got the links for a complete guide to build a computer?
