big linksys problem

Hey people i have a problem with my linksys wireless g router. I have the router in the room upstairs and a wireless g pci card in the computer im using. Ive tried to install linksys ultilities onto the comp but foe some reason windows xp doesnt let the menu run, it just pops up really quick then dissapears. in currently using wep encryption at 128 bit and for some reason i keep losing signal every so often. it also loses sight of the wireless connection completly sometimes and i either have to wait for it to find it or restart the computer. Please any help to solve this problem would

have you tried downloading all the WAP related updates for windows xp?

have you donwloaded the latest drivers/software for the wireless card?

also, are you sure you don't have some kind of virus/spyware/trojan?

yes i have the latest drivers and no theres no malicius programs the computer has only been on the net for 2 days
and i havent surfed any sites that would downlaod programs plus i use mozilla not IE explorer.

Have you tried the same on a wired connection?

I had at the beggining some issues with the signal streght I changed the channel at it solved it.

Do you have a 2.4 GHZ phone on your home?

ok well all i did was go into the firmware, upgrade it, change the connection to g only and switched from the default channel 6 to channel 1 and i think that got rid of the distortion that caused frequent disconnections.
