there is no driver needed for cdroms or for cdburners (or dvdburners for that matter)
There is only the software such as Nero or Adaptec or whichever it uses.
The only thing that might give you an issue is the "jumper" on the back of the cd drive. There is a jumper on each drive (and on hard drives etc)....if the cdrom will be on a cable by itself then the jumper needs to be on "master". If the cdrom is on a cable with another cdrom or a hard drive then the jumpers on BOTH drives need to be set to go along with each other...like one needs to be master and the other set to "slave".
If the old drive is on a cable by itself....and the new drive was on a cable by itself..then most likely the jumper is already good to go and its just a matter of physically swapping the units.
I tried to find a good pic but couldnt..but I did find a nice diagram of the back of a CDROM. The "jumper" is just a little plastic thing that connects two of the pins. See the pic here

The jumpers are where it says (c)....and then all drives have labeled somewhere like the pic telling you which jumper is "master" "slave" or "cable select"....cable select can be used in some cases but master and slave is just as easy. In the pic the jumper would go on vertically....never horizontally.
