Kids P4 1.5 ????

I've only started to do overclocking recently. I've read various tutorials about the subject but I still have one problem: as you know the p4 1,5 comes with the multiplier factor locked so the only way to overclock is increase FBS. I've increased for 133MHz and I've arranged the PCI, the AGP and the memory frequency. I've also read that sometimes we need to increase the core voltage otherwise it won't boot. I've also done that but it still doesn't work. So please could you help me?

SDRAM 133MHz
ABIT BW7

Thx anyway

Not quite sure what exactly you mean by "...I've also done that but it still doesn't work...."

Does the pc not complete POST and boot-up? Does the OS begin to load? Does the OS load but certain programs/games not work? Where do the problems occur? How soon after booting up?

The earlier P-4s were pretty good regarding fsb overclocking. My wife's P4 1.6 (16.0 x 100) has been happily running at 2.134gHz (16.0 x 133) since Day 1, about a year ago. We did not need to increase vcore. Some details regarding your motherboard settings & ram timings, CPU's heat sink/fan, and OS would be helpful.

well its possible you took to much of a jump there, lol. Can you try going to 110 first or 115-120ish as opposed to the massive jump to 133?

just as some personal info in case you are interested....there are adapters out which convert socket 423 boards to 478, as listed here. I checked and your board is listed as compatible...if you can get your motherboard running 133 you could go to one of the newer 533fsb pentium 4's. I bought some adapters from that company (socket 370 stuff) and they worked great.

John Prophet's posts reminded me that my wife's PC uses a 533mHz bus mobo (Asus P4S533), so that the ram was running at default speed when we jumped from 400mHz bus the CPU expected, to 533mHz.

well something like that could be his problem. Even though he said he set the pci and ram speeds etc...if he made a mistake somewhere with a pci divider or something then something could be overclocked too far and wont allow the boot....thats why I suggested trying a smaller step first etc.

First of all i wanna thank you for your help.
Yesterday i've managed to increase my FSB frequency to 115Mhz, i've also had to increase my core voltage to 7.5 otherwise it won't even boot what i mean is he doesn't let me access the bios.
I don't have problems with agp or pci frequencies because my board allow me to block their frequencies i'm not using any kind of divider.

Now i've oneother question sorry if it is to dumb but i've already read severals posts and i still don't get it.
My problem is about the ram timings because i don't know how it work , or where do i change this value and worse i don't know what value i should use, i supose that by increasing the FSB i'll have to change something on the memory. If anyone could give me some help i really would apprciate that.

Sorry about the English i really suck

Well when you overclock the fsb to 115 you also are speeding up the ram...but pc2100 ram is made to run at 133fsb and pc2700 ram runs at 166fsb so 115 fsb shouldnt be any problem.

The other settings are things like "cas latency" and stuff like that....thats when you are really fine-tuning the system. Some settings are said to be more "aggressive" and others more "conservative". If you use more "agressive" settings you may get better performance but less stability..if you use "conservative" settings you get more stability but maybe less speed.

I am no expert on those settings...the best thing to do is find a nice article to explain all the basics of it.

Here are a few articles and other links

http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/bios/bios8.shtml
http://www.hardwarehell.com/biosarch.htm
http://www.gen-x-pc.com/optimize_memory.htm

One tip is to write down the settings in the bios if you have trouble remembering them all.....because what will happen is that sometimes you will make adjustments and then the computer wont bootup so you have to reset the bios and you lose your settings and have to start over...so especially with these weird memory settings you may have to write them down.

your board is an Abit and they have some of the best BIOS'es to overclock with....so you might also do some searches on google for things like "abit softmenu overclocking" or "abit softmenu settings"

Oh, I forgot you have sdram.....there is probably a setting to either run the ram at the fsb or at the fsb+33mhz.

If you have it set to run at the fsb it is running at 115 since you overclocked....if you have it runnnig at "fsb+33mhz" it is running at 148mhz....if its running at 148 and you get some lockups you might have to try to bring the ram speed down some....or use less "agressive" memory timings.
