problems installing windows 98

For some reason when on my old computer I try to re-install windows 98 i get an error>>> msgsrv32....performed an illegal operation...then under the details section it says general protection fault and then it says pidgen.dll

I get as far as entering the key code then when I hit "next" the error appears and I cannot proceed.

ANy suggestions?

Did a quick google search, came up with some promising links:

MSGSRV32 caused an General Protection Fault in PIDGEN.DLL

This behavior may also occur if you start your computer with a Windows 98 Startup disk and then try to install Windows 98 from CD-ROM, or if you attempt to view your hardware configuration using the System Information Tool.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur for either of the following reasons:

You are running Setup from the floppy disk version of Windows 98 and you typed the incorrect Product Key.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method:

Incorrect Product Key
Type the correct Product Key or, if you have misplaced your Product Key, contact Microsoft Technical Support to obtain the correct Product Key for Windows 98.

Incorrect Date
Reset you computer's date to the correct date.

Yep,

That was the problem.....i needed to change the date. I went into safe mode and changed the date, it was 2080...lol. No idea how that happened, also, I didnt know that a wrong date would cause such a problem.

Anyways, thanks for you help guys
