To wait or not to wait?

Well I am wanting to build a new system, right now I have an XP 1800+, and everything else is decent. I was wanting to build a new system with the money I will be getting at christmas. The thing is a lot of new technoloy will be coming out in 2004 like PCI Express.. When will PCI express be on motherboards? If I would have to wait 8 months to get a computer with PCI express I would just rather build one after christmas. Also when PCI express comes out how long do you think it will be before video card manafacturers stop making AGP video cards? So does anyone know when PCI express will hit the mass market?

Go ahead and build now, you will always be waiting due to new technology coming out. Late in 2004 DDR2 will be coming out also.

Depends on how long you want to wait and how much money you have. Even if you wait for the new technology, when it does get here you'll be looking at top dollar hardware, so it'll take a while for the prices to come down. Also, as with any new technology, it takes time in the mass market to recognize and remedy any glitches. I WON'T be the first one to jump on the bandwagon-I'd rather wait a few months to see how things perform in real-world use. If you're comfortable buying when the price is high and the technology hasn't had time to prove itself viable, then you should wait. If you'd rather buy at a time when prices are about as low as they've ever been on hardware that has had time for review and to prove itself, then you should do it now.
And as elroy mentioned, there will ALWAYS be new technology coming out. If you wait for PCI express and DDR2, by the time you're ready to buy, there will be newer advancements on the horizon.

I'm also buliding a computer but im going to bulid one during the summer when schoool gets out. I would wait. When the new technology comes out the new technology of today will go down a lot. The new amdfx 64 that now is priced at 733$ will drop to 650$ in the next few months. I'm at a disadvantage because i live in germeny 10 out of 12 months of the year. When i go back during the summer to visit and when i exchange my money i will have a lot less dollars than of i had eours which will really suck. But if i where you id wait a few months.

Just build now, unless there's a new technology you really want coming out in a month just build now. That's what I tell people build/buy your system now. There's always going to be better.
