I have two windows xp computers connected behind a router. From my brothers computer i can get to my files, but when i try to get to his files, a dialog box comes up that wants me to put in a password. it says hppav\guest and the password box. How do you get rid of this so you dont have to type in a password?

THX in advance

XP will not share files to guest account by default... the OS doesn't "know" who the "guest" is, and is reluctant to grant the guest access.

Add your user account(s) to both PCs, and then share the directory(ies) granting read/write permissions to both your user accounts. You need the exact same user account (same username/password) on both PCs.

Assign the account the same level of permissions (probably 'adminstrator' given these PCs are a little home network).

Assuming you are entering a logon username/password at XP loads, then you will be able to reach the shared files on the other PC without a further prompt for username/password.
