Kids linux/windows network question

how do i share a linux partition ( /home/users ) to a windows network?

this is what i have achieved so far. >>

i have sucessfully "accessed" a windows machine and copied files to my linux system.

however, how can i allow a windows xp machine to view and copy files from a "native" /home/user Linux partition?

im buying a new computer this month and i want to be able to share the files currently on my mandrake 9.2 linux partition so that i can copy them to a drive using winXP

thanks guys! :-)

You can use samba to share that directory.
Two ways to do this from a GUI. In the Mandrake Control Center, turn on file sharing. Then from konqueror you should be able to just right click the folder and select to share it.

Second way. If webmin isn't installed, install it. http://localhost:10000 in a browser. From here you can access samba, and setup more samba shares with many more options than you can with the konqueror method.

thank you so much, i have heard of samba in mandrake, and webmin.

i have been accessing files from an xp machine using "LinNeighborhood" what gets me mad from this is that linux wont automatically mount those shared drives.

i'll give samba/webmin a try !

I will auto mount them!

Go to the Mandrake Control Center. In there you can setup your windows shares to auto mount.
